Archery season just started in Minnesota.

The only kind of varmint I'm hunting is a black and white fox squirrel to have mounted.
Actually, freeze dried.   It lasts longer than regular mounts.
They just clean off any blood then pose the animal and put it in a vacuum chamber at sub zero temperatures.

No furry game animals legal for
a few weeks or so
Only doves and teal (I think)
right now
First week of October for
archery deer, then November
for general (gun) deer until
January, then muzzleloader
for about a week
Quack quacks and honk honks
are mashed in there somewhere
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Sort of ready. Blind relocated but the clover I planted, hasn’t seen rain till this weekend. The state of VA says no bait but food plots are okay, so food plot it is.

That’s a good thought. There’s honey suckle growing along the power line so that’s good. The planted area is in shade with good cover.

Had good luck with oats in this spot but wanted to try a perennial this year. Don’t know. May have been late for clover, going in the ground at end of Aug. No rain didn’t help. Won’t hunt till Nov so that’s a plus.

Tried a pic. System says, sorry you are not allowed to post anymore attachments. ☹️

No results in this "hour by hour" reporting.  Perhaps this morning.  It is important to stress, regardless of preparation and anticipation, that the deer must PARTICIPATE.

Well in 2020 it seemed all of the deer were observing the state imposed lockdowns and practicing extreme social distancing from me ... literally went out 40 times, different places, different techniques, from early to late season, saw a few but nothing big enough or close enough.

But now in 2021 the deer are just sick and tired of it all, and decided to return to normal, un-vaxxed and un-masked! I had 4 (Yearling Spike, 2 does, and a fawn) come by the stand Sun morning early. Came by 3 times, little buck knew there was something somewhere but couldn't see me, pawing and snorting. Finally the bigger doe gave me a broadside at 18yds.

Hoping everyone else has a successful hunting season, and would be happy to see photos in this thread!

Me and my kids had deer sausage for breakfast. The mix which was store bought just does not do it. Added crushed red pepper, fennel seeds black pepper, salt, sage and sugar. Got the pan HOT with bacon grease and seared it. No complaints...

Sounds great! Made hot Italian sausage, got some pork fat from the butcher to mix in with the venison. Manual grinder ... not fun really, but boy did it taste delicious. My wife asked for venison kielbasa ... don't have a stuffer, so I'll have to think on that, as I know what she wants is the smoked links like you get in the store. Maybe I can wrangle a new grinder/stuffer and a smoker out of this!

JMHO-  I've never been satisfied
with the sausage I've made with
pork mixed in venison.
I've had a lot better luck and better
flavor ( to me ) using cheap fatty
hamburger meat (20%)
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I’ll give that a whirl; that’s my recipe for meatballs, fatty burger with venison, and they come out great.0

So far, I've had the best luck with
80% venison 20% fatty beef

Not too greasy- not too dry

I suggest separate grinder and stuffer. Fatty pork for sausage, fatty beef for burger. Ymmv...

Update on meals please...

I've made about 15# of hot "jimmy dean" sausage so far this year, another 15 of mesquite jerky. Lots of ground venison tomato sauce, meatballs, meatloaf, etc. Buddy got a moose in Newfoundland, having it shipped back here and we're going to process that up as well. I'm clearing out our freezer at this point though, still haven't moved, so not taking on any more meat.

ETA: Bought a 1hp #12 Mossy Oak grinder this season; wow what an upgrade to my old #5 hand jammer.
