   I know this will be hard for anyone but somebody like your dad or myself to understand, but speaking for myself, I really don't have and real desires  for the "toys".

    A couple exceptions..I do sometimes buy guns I don't need, and did splurge on my scooter, a couple years ago.

  About a year ago, I tried a Legion buddy's tri cycle... it is like that Can-Am, but the smaller 600c ....

   It was very nice, but my scooter works well, and I couldn't feature the extra value.

   My son is always chiding me, because I will fix something that he figures..should be scrapped..

  That....while while I thinking.."Why should I throw this out, when just a dab of glue or solder..and it will work like new" ?

   We live in a corner lot or "compound" if you prefer..  My son & his wife in the big, old victorian..I live in a manufactured home around the corner on the same lot.  I could have a larger, nicer house...but this one works just fine, and is more than enough for an old man.

  I never had the desire to purchase extravagances to impress anyone..

   I fully realize that any property or funds I have, will be left to him..and that is OK..i just don't have any urge to spend..

That is how my Grandfather was. I would stop over and say I’m running to burgerbarf or some such place. He’d hand me a 20. I got it papa. I may have had 3 to 400 to my name. I never knew he had any money. When he passed there was 180k and two paid for properties. If I would have known that I would have taken them 20’s... Everything went to my mom and uncles.

   So next time you run into some old geezer that can, but doesn't fly to the Bahamas, buy costly dinners..or load up with ATVs, Snow machines, and luxury pickups...  Just shrug your shoulders and say...... "Ha!  ..Another child of the depression"!

Everyone I’ve known that lived through the Great Depression lives a frugal life. They can’t help themselves. Most of us have never been hungry or stood in a bread line.

Truth is the end times are here. Get ready to meet your God. I’ve never preached a funeral that the hurst had a uhaul behind it. None of us will leave here with any worldly goods. Only the treasures layed up in heaven will last.

Dad grew up in the depression. Not many people were wanting to hire young Cherokee men in the 40s, and 50s either.
We were pretty poor, but dads' work ethic was like nobody I've ever seen, and by the mid 60s folks had begun to notice.
IBM hired him without a high school diploma, and he kinda took off from there. Got his GED going to night school, and things lossened up.
He was still tighter than a bank vault and although he never said it, he was terrified of being broke again.

Like Byron said, most of us have never been hungry, but its lookin like we might get the experience.
I don't know when the 2nd coming is, but the United States seems to be in the middle of its going.

  Lloyd... I have to admit, I am surprised that you would..after my explanation, think somehow that my grandchildren would turn into drug addicts!
   I surely would not accuse your grandchildren of such a potential !

  Just FYI..My 4 grandchildren are all very successful in their fields. Two in law enforcement and one employed by NATO as a weapons specialist.  Except for my grand daughter, they are in their early thirties, have no desire for addictive substances..and by nature of their jobs..cannot be involved in such activity.  They eschew any such things by nature and Christian training.
   
    Each not only has a main job, but also have an avocation.. 1) Nato employee/gunsmith.. 2) Corrections officer, DJ/videographer.. 3) Corrections officer/ rare woods dealer/ blacksmith~bladesmith, while my grand daughter is a beauty consultant with a major beauty supplies firm.  She needs no other job..other than looking beautiful.. even though she did receive some corrective words from grandpa, for a time..  

  Although one can never 'rest on their laurels', I am also pleased with my great grandchildren .  Of them, my great granddaughter is the only one old enough to work, she is doing so with McDonalds..a senior in high school, she is looking forward toward a scholarship, being a local high school track star.

    The other 6 grandkids are all blond haired boys, 9 and under..you have seen one over in the knives
   forum.. only 5 and already learning the blacksmithing art.  All my offspring are Christians, and nearly all are well versed, and living in the faith.

    That is why I suggest you blindsided me with your statement..

  Not a miserly notion at all Pastor, I just don't see any reason to watch what I have saved..just vaporize away, due to inflation !

   It happened once before to me, with the Jimmy Carter inflation of the 1970s !  ...And as I said, my income is not luxurious, so if the Lord tarries..who knows, I may need it  ?
