Scam Alert
« on: October 05, 2021, 04:48:11 AM »
I have had a couple of official looking emails thanking me for being a customer of this or that computer protection system and they are renewing my plan if I no longer wont the plan call this number. Any of you had any of them? I have PC Matic which renews every year but they send me an email letting me know the date and time.

I get emails every day telling me that I've won something.

If those were legit I'd be a millionaire. ;D

..And how many of you have gotten a call like the one I received just yesterday, which started out..

" Hello Grandpa, how are you doing?  This is your oldest grandson..the one who loves you most.."

Since that was not the first time, I quickly let the scammer know my grandsons all work, and would not go around trying to cheat old folks out of their sometimes meager funds..

These robbers try to convince old folks that their grandkids are in trouble, and need money for a fine..

Got one of those one time from my oldest grand daughter. Thing was at that time I actually had no grand daughters at all. Now I do have an "oldest" grand daughter who is also my youngest as she is the only one. She's 2 so not likely to be calling for money soon.

There used to be one that called
my mother frequently. They would
start out with I just need to confirm
your name and address to send you
this free back brace/ walker/handrail/
cane/ etc.,  and they would record you
giving your name and address and
saying "yes" and somehow they'd
charge Medicare for it
I tried several times to get in touch
with someone with social security
or the medicare people about fraud,
but they seemed pretty indifferent
about the whole thing and I never
got anywhere trying to deal with them
After my mother passed, I was what
I thought was a very long time trying
to close her account to keep anybody
from drawing off of it
There's way more bs going on than
we'll ever know about

I understand that now if they can
get you to say "yes" on the phone
they can charge the government for
all kinds of phoney medical stuff
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .
