Midsouth Shooting Supply list both ammo and 14"Contender barrels.  Claims ammo is to be shipped in August and barrels are listed as on order.  www.midsouthshooterssupply.com  I believe it would be great for squirrels and those noisy crows!

I am having trouble seeing the justification (other than a reason for a new barrel) since I already own a 17HMR.  Only difference I see is that the velocity is a little lower.  Seems my 17 HMR will do everthing it will do plus some.  They say the price will be lower (I heard $5.50 a box) but I have seen some 17 HMR advertised lately for $7.50, I do not shoot enough of them in a Contender to make a difference.

Now that new XTP load for the 17 HMR has my attention.  That round can benefit from a less explosive bullet for some applications.  Glad this post was here, I had not heard about the XTP version till I followed the link.

supposed to have a heavier bullet too.  May (should) give better penetration.  Heavier bullet moving  a little slower and all that.......
