Sent my 243 handi in today for a huntsman barrel.  Was not planning on it as I already have a huntsman. My Buddy wanted a barrel on his huntsman for a shotgun barrel. He owed me some money and offered to pay for the barrel. When I get it back, I will sell my other huntsman and recoop what he owes me that way. neve rhas cash but was using his credit card to pay them. Eithe rway I get a new barrel and my money back.

For just the price of a barrel I would keep the other for a spare. It could not hurt as I have heard of some folks having issues that needed fixing. This way you will always have one handy. I would not mind a extra either if I was not building a 54 cal so I will have 3 muzzle loaders a traditional and 2 inlines. Jim

bubba, That deal surely is better than an I.O.U. note.
Love my Huntsman and seriously thinking about getting one of the new 26" barrel Sidekicks. Only problem is, which one to use and would feel bad leaving one in the gun chest.

Anyhow, been also thinking of building a traditional ML  for shooting in a monthly informal match this summer.

Hey Bubba, I feel bad for your buddy because thats exactly how I operate most of the time now since I retired. No cash but a credit card available. I usually put EVERYTHING I can on my credit card and pay it off in FULL every month from my retirement check. No interest and everything is paid for. It is a pain not having much cash around but I seem to have less frivolous spending, but I do find enough for another gun every so often, life is good  :) ....<><.... :D

I was reading about sending the receiver back to Marlin to have a new barrell fitted.  My question is, my sons both have the single shot .410's shotguns and I was wondering if I can send those back and have them both fitted with another caliber barrell or the muzzle loader barrell?

The Rifle receivers will take any barrel, Rifle, Muzzle loader or shotgun. The shotgun receivers will only take another shotgun barrel or muzzle loader barrel they will not take a rifle barrel. You would think it would be more cost efective just to make one receiver instead of 2 different strengh ones?? Jim

yeah it would be nice to own one receiver and attach as many barrels of any type as you wanted.  Now am I understanding that I can ship the receiver from my son's sinngle shot .410 shotgun back and have a muzzleloader barrell attached to it?  If so, I think it will be in the mail tomorrow!

From the barrel accessory page on the H&R web page:

Quote
Barrel Accessory Program

Additional barrels may be added to firearms of our manufacture since 1987 only, with a serial number that begins with N or H. We do not install additional barrels on any other manufacturerÂ’s firearms.
Additional barrels are available as additional barrels only. We will not exchange barrels for existing barrels on shotguns and rifles, as it will change the model.
Rifle frames may be fitted with additional rifle, shotgun, and muzzleloader barrels.
Shotgun frames may be fitted with additional shotgun and muzzleloader barrels only.
We do not sell additional barrels outright. All barrels must be factory fitted.
We do not sell barrel blanks or do custom calibers.
In order to obtain an additional barrel(s), the stock, forend and frame (receiver) must be sent to us so they may be properly hand-fitted to the barrel, to be sure they are correctly head-spaced and proof-tested.

This can be found at www.hr1871.com

It also helps to call their customer service at (978) 630-8220 or send an email to hr1871@hr1871.com to double check before you send your reciever in to them.

Hope this helps

Actually Markc it makes sense to own three... One for Rim Fire, One for Center fire rifle and one for shotguns.... Makes it Great to have the trigger pull the same on all three... All of a sudden they just become an extension of your arm....

My rimfire carries anything from my .17 hummer to all the .22's... My center fire reciever carries most all from .243 to .450... and my shot gun reciever carries everything from .410 to 12 gauage...

Then of course there are a few dedicated guns... Like 2 Ultra20's. Lil Tom my dedicated 20 gauge Turkey thumper, and Last but not least my Combo.243/.50 Cal Huntsman which will eventually carry a Topper Deluxe 12 gauge barrel...

Now if we could only get NEF/H&R to make a 12 gauge Smoke Pole, that too would adorn that sweet shooting case hardened Huntsman Reciever... Aman can never own enuff of that Black Pipe.... MTNMAN

markc,

Just a thought, you can buy a blued Huntsman from WAL*MART for $128.67 + tax. Or you can buy a new Pardner at WAL*MART for about $86.00. The used Pardners I see on the racks are at least that or more. The blued Huntsman barrel is $79 through the barrel program, so for around $175 you could have it that way. I have a Stainless Huntsman and the whole gun cost me $202 full retail at a sporting goods store. The Stainless Huntsman barrel is around $110 if I remember correctly.

Explain "THAT LOOK"?

I will be looking for a used one I think.  Then again, I think the local Walmart sells the Huntsman near me.  I will have to check on that.

I have to confess that I feel a little different about the H&R barrel program. For me, each time I got a new barrel for one of my guns (Rem 870 slug...smooth and rifled), it seemed like a non-event. The barrels sit in their respective boxes in the basement  and are kind of out of sight, and out of mind for me.
The barrels don't seem to fit well into my gun safe,so that's why they are stored elsewhere.

When I try to satisfy the need for a new gun option/caliber,...I enjoy having  the whole gun and it's individual personality that it brings to my collection.  I realize that having a few/many barrels for one receiver certainly has it's advantages (same trigger pull, same familiar stock, lower cost and reduction of storage problems, etc.),but as said, when I want a new gun...I want the whole thing,.......lock,stock and barrel.

The beauty of the H&R's is that the whole gun cost is quite affordable for most and each one that I drag out to clean.handle and oil has it's own story and fond memories. Love them little H&R's and anxiously awaiting the next addition! Hmmmm, wondering if the next one will have some interesting wood grain?

In the minority?,........Primer

I am with primer on this one. I prefer the whole gun. I have a 223 Handirifle a Huntsman and a 12 ga Turkey gun. The Turkey gun complete cost me $90. The barrel would have cost me $59 plus shipping the gun to H&R and not having my receiver for a few weeks . I paid $135 for the Huntsman - the barrel would have cost me $79 plus . They are inexpensive enough to purchase the whole gun and not mess with barrel changes .
I also have a T/C Contender pistol. Due to the cost , I have 4 barrels and make the switch with them. I could probably buy two NEFs for the cost of a Contender frame.    8)

You may be in the minority, Primer, but I feel the same.  Two Encores, a G2, and a Huntsman without an extra barrel sitting lonely.   :-)
