Very nice pistols. I've shot the Shield in 9 and 40 and like both very much.  good feeling slim pistol for carry. Triggers are decent out of the box. we ran over 500 rounds through the 40 and it ate every load we fed it. Same for the 9.    I'm a huge fan of the S&W M&P's. I own several and have had zero problems with them other than some magazine follower wear on my Mid size 45.  fyi it has over 15000 rounds through it.   ;)  btw Smith sent me all new mag springs, followers and a recoil buffer when I called.  couldn't be happier with them.

I took my new shield out for its first range trip this afternoon.  I was very happy with it.  shot very well handled all my hand loads with no  concerns.  This is going to become my carry gun

Don't own a Shield 40 cal specifically (have a S&W M&P 45 compact), but the guys over on the S&W forum were having a lot of problems on the early model with magazines dropping out of the gun under recoil.  S&W has modified the magazine retention notch in the magazines on current production guns, and that seems to have fixed the problem.  Just something to know about if you are considering used.

since this post ive had a 40 and have 3 9s and a 45 shield. The 40 was stolen by my son in law. ALL of them run flawlessly. Dong have a single bad word to say about them. They run as good as my glock 43 at less then half the price. Ive got 4 other m&ps and they all are great guns. Im not selling my glocks but i wouldnt buy another if the same gun was available in the m&p line.

I have a Shield, Shield EZ and Shield plus.

I carried the Shield a long time but it is now stashed away and unused. I moved to the Shield EZ from the Shield and now am ready to move to my newest the Shield Plus.

The Plus is supposed to fit same holsters that Shield does but mine will not fit my Fobus I've always used for the Shield. I do have an IWB leather holster for the Shield it fits fine.

So I ordered a new holster for it and it fits fine and is a retention holster. It took almost forever for the 13 round magazines to become available but I finally got some so I'm now ready to carry the Plus.

I've run I guess 150 or so rounds thru it using all of the mags I have for it and nary a bobble  along the way. I did wear my thumb out trying to load those 13 round mags so ordered a loading took made just for the Shield Plus mags.

my favorite sheild is the 9mm 2.0. Ive got two of the first gen 9mms and on 2.0 and really like the 2.0. Id consider the new plus but then all the mags i have for the other 9s wouldnt work in it and ive got a FEW.

I bought a S&W Shield 2.0 40 Cal and took it to the range and off sandbag rest with factory loads it was shooting 6 inches to the left. I found my front sight was off center to the right. I did a little looking on YouTube and found this has been a problem with a lot of Shields both 9mm and 40 cal. for a few years. I had to buy a sight pusher tool to adjust it to the center now I need to get it back to the range to shoot it again once the weather improves.

Only sight pusher I've ever owned or used is a brass punch and a hammer.

i invested in a good sight pusher MANY years ago. Id bet 3/4s of the handguns ive bought didnt need to have the sights adjusted. Ive got 5 shields and the only one that was about spot on out of the box is my 45acp shield. that said just changing bullets or loads in a handgun can throw off windage and elevation enough that sights need to be tweaked. Ive seen them off as much as 6 inches at 25 yards just changing loads.

I have a brass punch , hammer and vise I tried to use and it was impossible to move the front sight. I also tried soaking the sight overnight in Liquid Wrench and it still did not move. The sight pusher tool worked fine but I had to use a long handle wrench to turn the drifting screw to get the additional leverage.

No I didn't but I contacted Smith & Wesson and they told me the dove tail is non-directional and the sight can be drifted in either direction without damaging the sight. This is what I was wondering when I was having a problem drifting the sight.
