Blake & Lamb #1
« on: November 26, 2021, 08:26:55 PM »
Does anyone happen to know if
a Victor #1 crimp-on pan might
fit on a #1 B&L jump trap?
Looks fairly close looking at pictures,
but there's no good way to know
from a small photo. I have a
#11 here, but it has a bolt-on pan

I trapped a lot as a kid, and as far as I know, I never laid eyes on a jump trap.

As far as I know, nobody makes
jump traps anymore,  and very few
people use them (that I'm aware of)
Instead of leaf springs with eyes on
the ends of the trap, they use a
leaf attached to one end of the frame
and it goes across to the other end
inside and torques upwards to
shut the jaws.  More compact than
a double long spring trap, kind of
an ancestor of a modern coil spring
trap.

Some years ago I bought a box of
old traps from a man that was cleaning
out his father's outdoor goods
from years ago, and there was a
few of these Blake & Lamb #1 jump
traps in the box. Most were usable
as is, but one is missing the pan
and arm.

You’ll have to explain what I’m looking at here.
One does seem to be missing the pan.

Those are jump traps with the leaf
springs inside and attached to the
frame rather than leaves with the eyes

I'll just have to buy some pans and try
them. The cost of a ready made pan is
nothing,  it's the shipping that's going to
cost more than the parts

I still use jumps on my cat sets once and a while. You might try the snare shop for "paws-i-trip" trap pan parts.

FWIW- if anybody else runs into
this situation, I found a couple of
the crimp-on pans for the newly
manufactured Newhouse longspring
-made by Victor-
# 1 and #11 for like $1.15 (?) each.
They fit on and function perfectly.
One of them is going to need some
adjustment of the dog, but not much
