 reneging on his blackmail
payments to his illegitimate daughter.
she's filing suit against him for not
paying as part of a previous agreement.

I've heard the term "illegitimate children" all my life. Many times from church goin folk.

I guess if that were the case, then Joseph made an honest woman out of Mary, by marrying her, and adopting her "illigitiment baby".

My point is, before anybody gets their panties in a wad is. I don't believe there has ever been in the history of the planet, an illigitiment baby born.  But there have damn sure been a bunch of "illigitiment parents".

You have something there. It is no big deal now but back in the day it was the child that suffered the most. That has always annoyed me that people would treat an innocent child like they used to do. The child has absolutely no responsibility for being conceived and born but in the old days they suffered the most from the stigma. The mother was ostracized too and the man usually got away with little to no blame. The thing is, no child needs to be born unless wanted and especially now due to the birth control methods available. Humans are strange critters and lazy to boot. I say lazy because they won't make the effort and then try to buy their way out of something they feel is an embarrassment to them, not the child they fathered. It seems that is mostly the rich and self important that are afraid the news will come out about what they did.

I point out things like this because
I want people to see what their
money goes for when they buy
hats and jerseys and team logo

You said in your OP and I quote, "illegitimate daughter". Basically ol'Jer fathered a child out of wedlock which makes her illegitmate in the eyes of most but not him. He is just a scumbag that broke his marriage vows. Truthfully I would view him as a scumbag if he had never cheated on his wife. I feel sorry for the kid knowing he is her father and wanted to hide the fact.
