...Proud of his new damascus brisket knife my grandson forged for him or her..  At this point, the blade is rough ground..when finish sanded and etched..the layers will pop !

  When you enlarge the photo 2X the grain is more visible..and even more prominent after it is etched.

  Below... A stack like this is forged and folded, folded and folded and forged many times to form a billet.

Knife completed.  Some extraordinary chef will soon be getting an heirloom quality blade to pass down as an heirloom.
  Photo taken side of forge..looking toward nearest neighbor.  The wood is old growth lace Redwood burl, which is normally used as jewelry trim.

  The Damascus is made of 5160 and 15N20 in his own forge.  Some claim those two steels don't weld..they are obviously wron.   The bladeetched with ferrous oxide.
