I don't enjoy the snow as I used to, but there are plenty who just "eat up" running around on snow machines...and of course, the ski slopes are getting an extended season.

I went by the local "ski town" on Monday, and the snow on the slopes was "patchy", too patchy for skiing, but this snowfall may give them a few more days.

Slopes shown below, are the local slopes..about 15 miles from my home.  My recreational acreage is between my home and the slopes, and will only grow in value..but that's for my kids..

My wife and I used to "eat up" running around on snow machines. Her oldest sister lived in Cloudcroft and they got us into it. We would drive up on Friday afternoon, spend all day Saturday trail running, do it again on Sunday, and then drive home. In '91 my wife fell walking to the truck as we were loading up from the day's ride. She slipped on an icy patch under the snow while her other foot stayed firmly planted. Before that she had survived rolling her machine one time without getting a scratch but this incident pretty well ended our snowmobiling hobby. She still carries around a lot of stainless steel in her leg but the doctor knew what he was doing. He told her without it she would develop arthritis in her ankle in about two years but this procedure would postpone it for at least fifteen years. Here it is 31 years later and she has no arthritis in that ankle.

Winter fun??   There was a time that I looked forward to fall and winter for the hunting seasons.

But no more, now I stay huddled up in the den with a blanket around my legs and feet.
My blood circulation ain't what it use to be. :)

I talked to a fellow who was delivering lumber this morning..who said the ski slopes are already closed.

Besides being mostly gone by now, th esnow was too wet and "packy" to make good running, either with skis or a snow mobile !

I never got into snow mobile running just for sport, but did have one when I lived far enough out inthe boonies, that I may run into the need for one.  Never did any skiing...

Hunting is good in the winter though, easy tracking and blood trail..quiets the dead leaves down too !
