I need 38spl loads for a 12 inch barrel
« on: January 04, 2003, 09:53:12 AM »
I got a SSK 38 spl in a 12 inch barrel.  The reloading manuals give info for 4, 5 and 6 inch barrels using Unique, HS6, W231 and ect.  Any suggestions on powder that would do better in the longer 12 inch barrel?  I will shoot 125 jacketed and cast bullets in the 143 and 158 grain.  Do I go to a faster powder or slower powder?

My Lyman handbook lists loads for a jacketed 158 gr bullet using 2400
starting load of 8.4 gr. up to max load of 9.4 gr.

Thanks Greg.  Thats one that I haven't tried.  2400 would be a slower powder.  Any more suggestion just pass them on.  I would like to get one or two more choices so I can load 15 of each chosen powder and take out to the range
