THese people are actually allowed to drive on our roads
« on: June 18, 2022, 04:47:30 AM »
Water hauling is a big business in the oilfield. Produce water has to be gotten rid of and a large part of it is hauled to disposal sites by 18 wheelers. There is small company located about a third of a mile east of me. The county built excuse for a highway that runs in front of my home was designated a truck route many years ago when the state built an overpass southeast of me where the highways running to Tatum and Plains, TX split and were so cheap they it is only 15'- 6" high and a lot of oilfield trucks are taller. My road is narrow and rough as the county is not too good at building paved roads and were worse when this one was built. By turning east and driving 1/3rd of a mile farther these trucks could get on the state two lane highway that is much smoother and wider and turns into a four lane one mile south. They don't have to go under the overpass and are low enough that is wouldn't be a problem if they did  Nope, they head west and turn onto the road in front of my home. This morning I got to watch for the second time when a driver didn't latch his fifth wheel and dumped his trailer turning this corner. I was setting on my patio having coffee and watching the world wake up when he turned the corner and I heard a small bang and then the a diesel idling. I have tree that blocks my view  and after awhile I moseyed around to where I could see what was going on. The trailer was sitting down on the frame and the drives was cranking down his jacks so I knew what was going on. In a few minutes a pickup showed up and between the two of them they got hooked up after three tries to get under the trailer. This took around thirty minutes with the road blocked.

The first time they did it was more difficult situation. The trailer came completely off and was extended over the west bar ditch and with the truck having to back in a severe slant to the trailer hooking up wasn't happening. They finally got a big backhoe and lifted the front of the trailer up and drug it around to where the tractor could back in level and hook up. They had the road blocked for about an hour and a half before they could return to their yard and replace the air hoses that were yanked in apart. I added some insult to the incident by walking down and taking pictures plus telling the pusher that was on the scene this was the first time I had ever seen this happen in all my years in the oilfield. He was not at all happy with his driver and said as much. Expletives were involved.

I’ve been down that way many times. So im pretty sure where that is. Clovis has a big overpass in order to avoid the rail yards. Which come right through here.

If you mean the overpass you can't miss it as it is on what used to be State 18 but is now 206 I believe. It's where you make the right curve by the Lea County Electric substation and generating plant.

State Road 18 used to go all the way from the state line north of Kermit, TX all the way to Colorado. The state highway department in their convoluted wisdom decided to break it up into 5 different road numbers years ago. The rational was so the road departments along it would know what section of road they were responsible for.  :o I have to say the state road department isn't capable of much but anyone should know what their assigned portion of the highway is. This is also the department that puts up a speed limit sign with the posted limit a quarter of a mile before a sign lowering the limit.  :(

If it had been some kind of
hazardous something, you'd have
had to grab up your go bag and
get gone.
Lots of dangerous stuff being
transported all over the country
that people aren't aware of.
Public roads, in the air, across the
rails, on the waterways
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .
