A good percentage of people I've
known with horses buy em as a
novelty, and eventually get tired of
the necessary expense and working
with a good horse.
Even a good blooded horse will get
barn sour if you don't interact with it
pretty much every day.  They will also
find any sharp or bad 2 inches of fence
in 6 miles worth of otherwise pristine
fencing.

Yeah they’re a lot of work but I’ve ridden horses all my life and I’ve owned 18 horses and 1 pony.
Not all at the same time though.
I trained most of them myself but I cannot imagine how you would train a horse to guard you from a cow.
