Olter,
You might do better down at the Black powder forum, I think there are more black powder fellers there. Hope you find what you are looking for.
Good luck......Joe...........

olter,

I load my 95G with 50.0 gr of IMR 4198 under a 300 grain bullet.  It moves out just over 2100 fps.  With this load, my rifle will keep 5 holes touching at 100 yds.  The bad part is that because the rifle recoils straight back, I keep beating the heck outta my nose with the scope.

OUCH...been there---Done that.....

Try one of the Leupold Vari-X-1 scopes...that's what I use on my 1895GS and I don't have any problem with it...They have a much longer eye-relief than most and still give you a crystal clear site picture...and they don't cost too much either.

Better stay away form the black powder with a lever gun unless you love to take it apart to clean it up after every fireing session.

You got that right. I only shoot Black powder cartridges in my Rolling Block and my Shiloh Sharps 45-70's. I use the smokeless with my 1895. :)

Mac11700,

I've been trying to get an older weaver low power but keep getting beat at the end of the auctions.  I think I might have one comming up though.
Thank you for the info,

:cb2: Hey crow-feather, try the Simmons 4x shotgun scope. 5" of eye relief and a very clear, bright picture. Maybe I just got lucky, but it has a brighter picture than either my Burris or Leupold. Surprised the heck out of me, especially since it only cost $89.

Olter,
If you want black powder loads, without all the hassle of cleanup, use some CleanShot powder. It has the characteristics of BP, without the mess or corrosion.
I use it in many of my old Marlins, and single shot rifles, with excellent results. One note though; the cases need to be washed in soapy water at the end of the shooting day. It will still corrode the brass, even though it wont hurt steel.
