I have an old model 410/45 long colt barrel
« on: March 31, 2004, 03:21:42 AM »
with a small problem(actually I have two barrels) the problem is the barrel which has a rear sight has the outside choke on it and I can't get it off! the other gun also an outside choke gun but has no rear sight! I want to get the outside choke off of the sighted gun and on to the unsighted one for strictly 410 use and experiment with ball loads with the other gun with sights either 410 slugs or 45 colt loads using a variety of different brass to fill the longer chamber including 303 444 and 445 brass until I find a load which works and is accurate. So how do I get this stuck outside choke off of the gun? Help.

Do you have the choke wrench? TC has a "multi-tool" that has a choke wrench on it. At least I think they still have them (haven't been to their website lately).

fo the barrels but can't break the choke free of the barrel. Its just stuck on the barrel. I can'k even get the wrench to move with a pair of plyers (with a piece of leather on the wrench to proteck the metal)

See if you can find some Kroil penetrating oil.  Put some on the threads and let it sit for a while.  It's the best that I've ever used in 25 years of industrial maintenance work.  I think Midsouth may carry it or go to www.kanolabs.com to order.  Toll free is 800-311-3374.  You can order direct from the manufacturer in Nashville.

try shooting it quite a few time so the barrel heats up (or heat the barrel some other way) and while it is still hot use the wrench to try and break it loose.
