I didn't want to Highjack the other thread, so I am starting a new one.
Here is my use of rabbit fur. My brother-in-law has taken up archery, so I decided to put a quiver together for him. I looked around on the net and saw a few that were trimmed in fur and others that were entirely fur. I had purchased the rabbit pelt on sale for $1.50, so I decided to use it. I formulated the pattern and hit a leather supplier here in town. I found a 6 foot square piece for $2 a foot. I had saved some shank bone pieces from dinner one night, dried them and polished with a dremel. They were bright white at this point, so I hit them with Fieblings med brown dye, diluted with 75% Isopropyl alcohol, gives them a nice aged appearance. I opted for Conchos to help hold the fur down as it is only stitched to the inside of the quiver. I made the conchos from a Missour Mussel shell I found. I snapped it in half and used a belt sander to shape them into roughly circular objects. I put two holes in each with the dremel and a small bit. I had a shed antler around and used a tip for the pocket closure. I used waxed linen thread and a saddle stitch throughout the process. All told I put about 6.5 hours and less than $20 in materials. My brother-in-law received it for his birthday as just a plus item to what we had already got him. He really enjoyed it. It was full of arrows about 10 minutes after he opened it. It pretty much used most of the 6 square foot piece, but I probably have enough scrap for a small belt pouch.
