I would like to give CAS a try but except for cap and ball revolvers I do not own any guns that are CAS legal.

My question is can I still shoot and have fun with say just one SA revolver or would I need to get 2 revolvers, a rifle and a shotgun before I could start. That would be dang expensive just to try it!!!!

One thing about CAS shooters, is they are the friendliest and most helpful of the shooters around. If you show up at a match, someone is bound to lend you a rifle and shotgun and help you get through the stages, people even loan holsters and revolvers, and most shooters bring enough ammo to share. Bring a box of light target shotshells and even a box of Winchester or Black Hills 45Colt Cowboy factory ammo. (most won't shoot other peoples reloads in their gun). Your Cap & Ball guns will do, actually for the revolver strings.

I would not be able to get all the guns right away and borrowing would get old for those doing the lending. If I started with a SA cartridge revolver and maybe use a cap and ball for events requiring 2 handguns, could I just skip the rifle and shotgun sections. I am not really concerned about being competitive - I just want to do some shooting and have fun.

My mentors let me keep the borrowed guns for 3 months--only gave them back cause I had gotten mine by then. Usually the pards are fighting over who will loan you the required equipment. Gives us a reason to "air-out" all the hardware we have "collected" for CAS.

Check www.sassnet.com to find a club in your area. Give the contact person a call and pretty soon you'll be shooting with the rest.

Ruther shoot me Remingtons than anythang else if'n I kin finagle the loadin time. Some'a me best placements been with cap & ball!

I will try to answer your QUESTION. No, you can not just shoot one (1) pistol and forget the rifle/shotgun portion of the stages! This is a timed event requiring all three (3) disciplines throughout the day - pistol, rifle and shotgun. It would be like being in a NASCAR auto and saying, "Well, I'll just sit here at the Starting Line as it will be too expensive to race and let everyone else do their thing........!"

Listen to all the other Pards - borrow some guns at Matches to start with and slowly build up your own arsenal. AND really you can do it for a whole lot less money than you think.........

One thing tho' - Please try to dress Cowboy!!! It is the one thing that really miffs me - guys coming out in shorts, tennis shoes, baseball caps, tanktops and saying "I'm still working on my outfit!" C'mon, kids at Halloween can dress up as cowboys better than that!!!
