The "Blacksmith" knife..
« on: October 27, 2022, 10:34:09 AM »
There was a common pattern for a knife that many blacksmiths used, 6when someb8=od wanted a knife that must* be made
  in short order.
Sometimes a hunter would stop by the shop an dneed a knife quickly, because he was going to the woods in a couple hours
and had lost or misplaced his knife.

For that, or many other reasons, the blacksmith knife could be finished, and ready to use in a short time. Below are some examples of the blacksmith knife.  It onmly took a couple minutes to put a decorative twist in the handle.

By making sure the spine of the blade had a decent striking surface somewhere on it, it could double for a flint striker.

I have made many of them, some as "patch knives" for the black powder boys..

In fact, I may just make a small one as a neck knife for myself..

Very nice looking knife. What one cost if you could make me one?

I hav8e passed most of m shop to my grandson, but I guess I could make an extra.   I usually make them from repurposed steel,
which is from a file, lawnmower blade, bearing cup or some other high carbon steel source.

For just this one time, I am probably bidding too low, but would make you one for say, $40 plus shipping..that would be for up to a 5" blade.

Because I am actually retired now, If I were to go into making them regularly, It probably would be about $10 more.
