Soviet Union Navy clock.
« on: November 23, 2022, 07:13:34 AM »
I came across this on another forum. It's a wind up but it works ok. A lot of that old USSR military surplus ,or salvage was sold online. I guess this is from a submarine, there is Russian writing on the back of it.
I got it translated and it's directions on how to use it.

Back when I served in the divided Germany, whenever our troops got anywhere near Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin,
they traded medals and other memorabilia with the Russian troops.

That was long before today's "challenge coins"...

Back when my son was in the Army he watched a russian thru binoculars watching him the same way. They were on opposite sides of the Flulda Gap. He said a master sergeant once asked him what his plan was if the russians started through the gap. His response was to throw an incendairy devise inside  the computer truck he was responsible for and run like hell. It wasn't received kindly but after he explained that both of them knew their little crew wouldn't last 5 minutes the sergeant thought a bit and told him his he was right. Time to get out of Dodge City. Thankfully it never happened.

Nice clock, Phalanx. My son bought a couple of russian film cameras off e-bay just before e-bay shut off russia. One was a direct copy of a top line Leica. Things are heavy as a rock but work.

I don't wind it up very much. I’m afraid it will break it and i couldn't get it repaired. Its on the wall of our main bathroom above the sink. Clays Military.com sells a lot of this kind of stuff from other country’s, but no Russian.
I bought a nice thick wool blanket from him , made in Norway. He also has a sight on Amazon. Mostly US and German Military stuff anymore.
