The thrill of discovery..
« on: December 04, 2022, 11:05:20 AM »
A few years ago, I read of this discovery in my copy of The Biblical Archaeology Review.  I had not seen a good explanation of this7,6 until I found this article.
Interesting, how such a discovery can prove out an ancient historian, such as Flavius Josephus.  Josephus reported how, before Masada was conquered, the Jews yet living decided to cheat Rome out of a victory by committing suicide.

No Jew was willing to commit suicide, so after killing their families and friends, it came down to one man, who would
kill the few remaining..so they drew lots to see who would be last, kill his friends and then commit suicide.

The archaeologist Yigael Yadin, during his excavations discovered what appears to be those lots, scribed on pottery shards.
