Me and some other pistol instructors have been shooting the course of fire for handguns in the NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program. We've found that it's a great way to practice fundamentals and make the ammo count for something. BUT, honestly, I've gotta say we've found the requirements to be a bit under challenging for us. I suppose it would be better suited to someone who was brand new to shooting? In any case, I'm still kinda proud of myself and the others. At least we had enough commitment and discipline to stick it out over 6 months or so. New friendships were made, and commraderie is running high.
I'll think we'll start encouraging this program for those people who complete our "NRA Basic Pistol" course each month. Like I tell the students, the greatest responsibility of owning a handgun is the monthly ammo fee for practice! hehehe
So what next? Well, they've got a course of fire for trap and skeet shooting and that sure seems like a bunch of fun too! If not, maybe I'll fork out the cash and get back into IDPA? Whatever the case may be, I've gotta keep shooting!
