Many years ago, you could still walk across that "land bridge" when it froze up in the winter...
I had an old friend who waaaay back when, had a WACO airplane on ski's and his friend was wanting to shoot a polar bear. Anyway, they were flying along in the artic and found a HUGE polar bear track, so they flew along following it, but it was headed toward Russia!
My friend said he went down to 300 feet and kept following the track right into Russia, where they eventually found the bear. He landed the plane, and they stalked the bear on foot, shooting it. Then they skinned it, packed the hide back to the plane, took off and flew back into the US.
The Russians never knew they were there, but of course that was before Russia had really good radar... lol
