well wish me luck
« on: January 30, 2023, 11:39:55 PM »
going in for spinal fusion tomorrow morning. Ive had MANY surgeries. Some minor some major but i think im more nervous about this one then any of the others. Something about drilling and tapping screws into your spine and transplanting cadaver bone kind of gives me the woolies. Another kind of scary thing is my doctor told me ive had to many back surgeries and have to much scar tissue and this is the last time he can go through my back to access my spine. Said if or more like WHEN he has to go in again he will have to go  in from the side and thats makes it alot trickier. He told me its time to admit im old and to put away the toys and do my best to baby my back. My wife told him good luck with that! I think another reason im wound up about this one is my doc said i will have to spend at least one night in the hospital and probably 2. I spent basically 1 full year and most of a second 2 in the hospital back in the 70s and i absolutely detest being in one for even one night. I honestly think id prefer two nights in jail.

I just said a short prayer, that the Lord guide the doctors' hands and brains..   May your surgery be a great success.

Wishing good luck with that. I’ve known a few to have had that surgery and were glad they did. You’ll be fine. My brother had it some years back, he hasn’t slowed a bit, works constantly, rides a bike for miles. I don’t know you’re age, but he’s 65.

Best of luck with the hospital stay!

Good luck, Lloyd. My wife just got the word yesterday that nothing else can be done for her back. Old gal is in bad shape in that department and now just has to resign herself to live with it. It means more housework for me but I am already used to it. I can load a mean washer, dryer, dishwasher, and run a microwave pretty well already.

I finally had my first appointment to deal with mine yesterday afternoon. Had some numbing injections that were quick and easy to try to pinpoint the trouble spots. They found some but missed the worse one. We will continue on in two weeks.

Good Luck with all that

The last man I knew that had a
major spinal surgery ended up
paralyzed for about a year and
finally regained the ability to walk
but his arms were useless until
his death

Hope for a complete success and
recovery

Glad to hear it went well Lloyd and your home! Wishing you a speedy recovery. Have you taken any pain meds recently? Our bodies change, maybe you won't have the ill effects?

I have been wondering about you and am glad to hear you are home. Take you pain meds along with sennacot s and that should solve your problem. Works for me.

Ill give that an amen. Its been my philosophy for many years. Ive had some level of pain 24/7 since 1973 and will have it till they plant me. I think dealing with it has made me the tough sob I am today. This will pass and if the last 6 years were any indication then about this time next year ill be on the cutting table again.

my x father in law was the same. They actually made him hallucinate. After surgery once he complained to the nurse about the little people living under his bed then told his wife one of the nurses wanted to have sex with him and was rubbing on him. He was 77 years old and the nurse was around 25 ;) Im not quite like that. I just get what some would call bed spins or sea sickness and my skin gets all crawly feeling. Truthfully id rather have the pain. I know a guy gets used to it because I was on them from age 20 to age 35 every day. oxycodone 10mg 4 times a day and morphine for peak pain and even fentanyl patches for a year and didnt get sick then. Even your bowls eventually get used to it and you can take a dump but not regularly like you do without them. I remember when i quit them. The pain didnt get  one bit worse and i luckily didnt have withdrawals. My doctor said that the clock was ticking on him being able to give then to me and said it might be smart to see if you could quit now. Best advice i ever got. Just boggles my mind that some consider them recreational drugs. I fooled with alot of different recreational drugs in my young years and i can see people taking some of them but i sure dont see opiates as fun.

I certainly knew I was alive after following my wife all around Walmart Friday and it was still obvious yesterday and it seems I am this morning. She cheated and rode one of their scooters while I tried to keep up with her. I did pretty good for about 3/4 of the journey but was seriously lagging behind by the time she made it to checkout.

Lloyd, hope you can get back a somewhat normal life. Probably not what you've gone thru, hip replacement, and back problems for 30+ years. Couldn't take prescription med's either, rather drink 1/2 bottle of 100proof Youkan Jack and wake up with a 2 day hangover than that stuff. Relax, heating pad maybe, don't push it. Good Luck!!
