Is Triple 7 & stainless steel a bad combo ?
« on: March 08, 2004, 11:38:04 PM »
I own a Encore 209x50 and have been researching powders and bullets.  This past weekend I was at an outdoor show in Erie Pa. While there I attended a Muzzleloader seminar.  The CVA rep. said that there was a problem with using triple 7 in stainless steel barrels.  Also, he noted that running a cleaning patch between shots would be a remedy.
Has anybody encountered a problem ?
Is it common or recommended, to run a patch (spit patch?)  between shots ?
Any opinions on, TC Maxi-hunter, and/or Powerbelts ? ,
Pyrodex vs Triple 7?

That must be a CVA problem, my buddy shoots a stainless Encore also. He only shoots Triple 7 in his muzzleloader. He uses power belt 295 gr. bullets and when we are bench shooting, he will do a 5 round string before cleaning. I do the same thing in my Encore, except it is blued. We never had to clean between shots. Good luck and I do not think you will have a problem with your Encore.

Redhawk,
I'm new to ML and think having others experiences and opinions is a valuable asset.  I appreciate the response.  I also have a pack of 295 PowerBelts and 350 gr. Maxi-Hunters.
Are you using pellets? If you are, how much?
Thanx, Rick

I am using the pellets, I use 2 of them so 100 gr. I never liked using 3 pellets of the Pyrodex when I used them. To much recoil and not much benefit in velocity. I use the Triple 7 FFg powder in my Renegade muzzleloader with great success. I can't wait for them to come out with 45 cal Triple 7 pellets to use in my sons 209/45 caliber Encore. I think Triple 7 is great.

Winchester, I bought a 1000 of them. I also just got one of those 22 Hornet breach plugs and a 25 ACP breach plug to try out. I want to see how they do in my 45 and 50 cal Encore Muzzleloaders. I hope they do well, I have just want to see if accuracy goes up. If not and it stays the same, I will have extra plugs to use if needed. If my accuracy goes down I will get rid of the 22 hornet and 25 ACP breach plugs.
