Bob Vila's Home Again
« on: February 19, 2023, 07:33:43 AM »
I watch this every Sunday, if I am inside.
The oldest shows are the best shows; we watch a lot of the home improvement shows still but watch this one every Sunday when we are at home.  One can see just how much, A LOT, this has changed in the past 25-30 years.

They nail, often with hammers, any power tool is eithe air powered of plugged into a socket.
The one I am watching now they are redoing a holouse purchased out of a Sears catalog.
They are reusing  old plumbing, refinishing it rather that buying the lasted greasted from some stinkin store.
They are pulling through electrical wires to replace rather than tearing wall down to put new in, PLUS  BADA BOOOM, they are replastering the walls and NOT tearing out the lathes.

Except for an American Asain doing the plaster work, white boys, some with long hair doing the work.   Not single Latino is sight and this is in California.
Also, this episode , no paranoia over lead paint; No masks.
If you watched the show often though, you could see how Bob Vilas attitudes and house fixing style changed over the years.
Plus he stopped doing any of the actual work.

I still watch This Old House on the weekend often but it is a sad shadow of what it was and really should change the name to This NEW House construction sponsored by....

I had forgot all about it although I used to watch him some. There was another I liked that dealt with stuff like cabinets, tables, etc. but I have completely forgotten who did it and the name of the show. About all I can remember he was liked to use winge in his projects. I used to watch This Old House and wish I had his tools, a large enough place to put them, and most of all, time to use them.

I've watched some of those
shows in the past,  but most
got to where they featured a
large shop full of expensive
machinery and renovations
that cost as much as a modest
small house ( used to)
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I miss the old HGTV and DIY channel where they actually performed real work and taught along the way. What you get now is either a woman trying to tell guys what what she wants or some 'light on the loafers' looking guy doing the same. Everybody wants to flip a house. Let's see how much money as can make off this crap house. I Wish they'd go back to good handyman projects.
