Winchester Trapper
« on: January 09, 2003, 09:45:59 AM »
I have the chance to trade for one in 45 colt. I did some looking at Winchesters web page and it shows it to have a 16" barrel.  Is this a good gun to use?   The trade would also include a 45 Colt Ruger Vaquero.
Watcha fellas think?

I had a trapper years ago. It was a good carry rifle. It don't hold enough shells for a CAS stage though.

:D  jose, will it work with schoffield bullets?  If it will, how many can you put in the magazine?  Would it help to cut a couple of coils off of the mag spring?

Howdy,
I think the Trapper only holds 9 rounds. IF you want to reload an extra caliber or just shoot Schofields in everything, you can get 10 of those in. As for feeding reliably..... some will, some won't.

There are plenty of Pards that shoot the trapper. Once you get the hang of it a one round reload, if the stage calls for 10, is pretty quick. So, don't give up on the idea completely.
Time to fold,
