Single stage or progressive?
« on: January 01, 2003, 01:46:39 AM »
If I want to load a few rounds for long range side matches, is the progressive press consistant enough bullet to bullet or should I load these "Special" rounds in my single stage?

Since everyone is concerned with static I think the general answer is either use the single stage, convert your dillions powder measure or use a dipper and finish on a progressive. I don't do this yet but this is what I've seen written.

The only reason that I dont load my Long Range Lever and Single shot rounds in my Dillon's are takeing the time to set them up. I have an RCBS already on my bench and use that .
I load my Pistol Caliber Lever gun long range stuff on my Dillon. It is already set up for that round. One for 45 schofield and One for 45 Colt.
RCBS= 38/55 and 45/70

Everyone will have different ways of doing this. I would not hesitate one second to reload long range stuff on my Dillon's.

Hope this helps
Pete :-)

:D Howdy
   I use a singles stage press for everything I load have for 20+ years
For long range I have a press set up for it and everything is measured and weighted as it goes together to try and get every round within +/- .001 of each other (PB).  The other is set for my 45's  I like the idea of being able to see and make sure of the powder load: besides I enjoy reloading, the peace and quit in my own little word when the door is closed, I well load a  hundrad or so a week, ( pistol, rifle, and shotgun) but if you are in a hurry then go to a progressive press  :lol:
