Want to get in to Muzzle Loading for deer need help

Hello all

Im a deer hunter in Michigan who just graduated to handguns and have always had an intrest in muzzle loaders

Im looking to buy a deer gun  for ranges under 150 yards

I had my chioces narrowed down to 2 but doing some shopping has clouded my mind a bit

I wanted either a .50 Encore  or a .50 Omega,  but at my local bass pro up here in MI  they one guy said nothing bad about either, but was very pro Knight Disc.

I like the simplicity of the TCs no bolt to mess with but Im neww and need info

also are there any good books I should read before
I truley want to know all I can before making a bad invsetment

You might want to check out these guys and their tests, particularly with the Encore. I'm not endorsing them nor do I represent them nor have I had a chance to use their products. They seem  to take an empirical approach to testing various front stuffers though.

You will be happy with any of those three. All are top of the line and very accurate. One advantage of the Omega over the Knight is you can easily load the primer directly into the Omega. With the Knight you have to use the disc. The Knight has an adjustable trigger, some guys wish they could adjust the Omega trigger, most are very happy with it. I can't see spending the extra money for the Encore unless you plan to get the interchangable center fire rifle barrels for it. Go to a good gun store and see how these feel to you as you shoulder them up. That should be your main determinant in choosing among these fine rifles.

  .45 Kimber.  Like a couple of the guys told ya.  Go to a good gunshop tht has a variety of guns tht you think that you might like.  Shoulder each one,and see which one you like the feel of the most.  I learned a long time ago that no matter how expensive a rifle is,or cheap cost wise,if you dont like the way it shoulders,you wont shoot it well.   After ya find the one that fits ya the best,get the caliber ya want (in my opinion you want a .50 at least).  Get a good bp loading book,maybe like SAM FADALAS or TOBY BRIDGES ADVANCED BLACK POWDER HUNTING,and have at it.   There is a lot of good info in these books,and I buy as many as I can,that I already dont have.  Good luck and safe shooting.  One of the guys posted that he did not like the locks on the TRADITIONS,well,I just pulled one out of the box,and it fere sure needs some work.  Talk about dissapointment !!!!!!!!.  The hammer leaves a half moon imprint on the cap,im not happy,but it can be fixed.   stay safe,and good shooting.  And above all,welcome to the soot burners club when ya pull the trigger onna yer new toy.  King

Take a look at White Muzzleloading (also know as Splitfire).  They have a good selection of inlines that will shoot the distants you need.
Some of the guns may be pricey, but take a look at the web site.  You may find something that interest you.

I live in Rhode Island, so the furthist I'll probable shoot is 50 yards.  Any more than that and I'll be shooting deer in a different state (hahaha)
