Load data is very.....well, Frustrating!

Be careful!
Boy are you correct about the data being different. I loaded 8 rounds of 125 gr spitzers over 20 gr of H4227 for testing, based on some data I had read. Then just for curiosty, I sent a question to "Hodgdon help" about using H4227 for 30/30 for the 125 spitzers, and this was the reply I recieved.
" Use a maximum of 15 grains.  You will get very low velocity and relatively high pressures.  I would recommend that you purchase a pound of rifle powder.
Thanks,
Phil Hodgdon"

Well I guess I'll be pulling those bullets.  I suppose I should go only by the manufacturers specs.

Are you loading for hadngun or rifle?

The 15 grain "max" that you were advised of doesn't match what I found when working-up loads...

The reason he said that is because 4227 is typically a pistol powder, 25 ACP, 357, 38 44 mag etc.....I do see it listed in the Hogdon manual for 356 Winchester, and 30 Carbine, but no other rifle bullets bigger than 22 Hornet, and 222 Remington Mag, but is on the bottom of the food chain for these.   What he probably meant was that you should buy a pound of more appropriate powder: Varget, 4895, H-335 etc.  I would tend to agree in my limited experience.  USE PUBLISHED LOAD DATA, And Only the powders and data that are recommended for your cartridge.  After you are more experienced, maybe you can stray from the recipe....If you are not absolutely sure that your ammo is properly loaded, Destroy it.
