no.1 45/70

had to get a pound of powder friday night, and true to form they where out of what i wanted.so while they looked in the back room,i looked thru the used guns and found a  ruger #1s 45/70 that jumped into my hands and wouldn't go back on the rack. so i had to bring it home.

Congratulations on your new rifle.  You will love the caliber and the platform.  Now all you need is a family of wild hogs to thin out!
Or perhaps a black bear or two.  If you're in or near Potter or Elk counties, I understand they have some really huge black bears there.

Ruger #1 in .45-70

Years ago I wanted the ultimate #1 so I contracted with a gunsmith to rebarrel one in .45-70 with a heavy octagon!  It's a beaut!  A little heavy for toting through the brush after whitetail, but I can see it in a bear blind.

You have one of the neatest rifles going (they shore are purty ain't they), got one too of course. It shoots well and I intend to use it on Elk when I get back to Arizina(Flagstaff). Good luck with it!!!

i looked up the serial no. on it and it was built in 1974!! not a mark on it,i wonder if it was even shot! :eek: put a 1-4 leopold on it last night,soon as the weather warms up i'll have to go play! have to get rid of my marlin 1895ss now,never needed a second shot anyway!! :wink:

you will love shooting it...I love both my Ruger and my Browning in 45-70.
have yet to get a bear with it but I am looking......hahahaha

The only post 1900 singleshot I own is my Ruger #1 in .45-70. It's one of the 1978 Lyman-Ruger Cenntennials, and a real joy to shoot! Mine has the heavy 28" round barrel, and is a tack driver. One of my favorite guns.

Jim inpa, Had to put my 2 cents in. I have 5 45/70 rifles been shooting 45/70 since i was a teenager (1951). I used to hunt the Potter county /N.Y. state line on the south Boliver N.Y. side. Thats near Shinglehouse PA. Only problem was N.Y. Allegany County is shotgun only. Well im in sunny Florida now just reminissing. Enjoy it. Horsefeathers.
