  Already in the slammer for 2 life terms, it doesn't seem to be something he will sweat over by a great deal.

4 month old article, prior to his murder convictions. Seems a moot point unless he has assets that can be seized?

More likely, it was a stop-gap measure, just in case he got away with the other charges. 

  We should not forget that Al Capone died in jail, after they convicted him of tax evasion..

No, he didn't. He was released from prison and spent the last seven years of his life at his estate in Florida.
