Texas To Pass Bill Allowing Teachers to Be Armed In Class
« on: April 27, 2023, 02:22:25 AM »
Way overdue. State will provide training if teachers want to carry. And when their sitting in class they're looking at the 10 Commandments on the wall.  ;)

EXCELLENT!

weapons training should be a mandatory college credit for a teaching degree. our small town uses sheriffs dept police officers and retired police officers but pays them. can you imagine the tax savings if it was mandatory all teachers or at least a percentage of them in every school in the country had to have a gun available. but knowing teachers even if half were men there still wouldnt be a set of balls amongst them. at least in Texas if they find a set they can be utilized.

Yes
All this dilly-dallying around
and trying to salve hurt butts
needs to stop
If parents can't drop off a civilized
kid at school, they need to be barred.
There's been every manner of tutoring
and specialized education programs
since I was in school many years ago.
Every reasonable need was met years
ago. All the modern poop is because
of misfits that feel they need extra
attention and validation because the
truth is they're ate up with self loathing

If the right thing is done all schools in this country should allow teachers to be armed of they choose to be. We know that will never happen.

I think arming teachers is a great idea. My only concern is the stability of some of today's teachers.....................

I am ok with the idea. I am, now, a long ways from the classroom but can imagine a compact Glock  carried discreetly under a jacket. A good part of the issue would be training the students that their teachers armed.

What advantage would there be to training students about a particular teacher being armed?

Fair enough question. Teenagers react to any change in ways that are unpredictable. Not necessarily bad reactions though….curiosity, incessant questioning, storytelling, gossip…..things that disrupt the regular routine of learning.

Most likely a letter to the parents and possibly a school assembly would suffice. Back in the day I taught a high school class and can't recall any questions about guns, but lots of questions about K9s

JMHO-  I'd think it'd be more
advantageous for the student
body to be kept guessing about
which teacher has what and
who does not have which.
It'd be sufficient for the parents
to know that there will be trained
armed faculty on site along with
the obvious armed security guard

Every time I've seen or been a
part of one of these guns or
no guns go-rounds, nobody
ever wants to bring up the fact
that unstable and/or untrustworthy
people shouldn't be running around
loose among honest, stable, trustworthy
people. Criminals need to be locked
away, and mentally unstable people
need to be in a supervised mental
care facility

i dont think the kids should know which teachers are armed just that some are or all are. in a school in some nasty area of detroiy told the kids miss Marylu had a gun one of them would probably try to get it away from her. it would also let them know when they came to school with there glock which teachers to avoid. like was said tell the parents that some teachers may be armed and were trained and leave it at that. but my guess is one of the many ultra liberal teachers would be screaming at the top of thier lungs who the evil sobs with guns were. so i say make it mandatory that every teacher in the country have a lock box in there classroom and firearms training mandatory in college. dont agree with it? find a different job.put a safe in the office and have them sign out a gun every morning, put it in there lock box and return it every evening

This one that killed and was
finally killed herself was enabled
by her parents, and they still
made excuses for her after the
police took her out.
They knew all along that she was
a nutjob, and needed to be
institutionalized. There would
have been some butthurt for all,
but the victims wouldn't have been
victims, and the pinhead daughter
would still be alive as well.
I would think butthurt would be
preferable, but many disagree for
whatever reason

I agree with others here that why even let the students know which teachers are armed.

Exactly. Let the parents, and the students know that there are armed teachers, but its not necessary to say which ones.
There are several little west Texas school districts that armed their teachers years ago. Some even have put very blunt warning signs to anyone who might have bad intentions.

OK. I see your point. I am wondering about the practical aspects. A number of you fellows carried firearms every day for years. It may be a lot simpler than I imagine but I am remembering how hot it was in my classroom, Fall-winter-spring in the 80s on average. Not gonna wear a jacket. Is it as simple as not tucking in my shirt and wearing a holster tucked behind the waistband?
I am aware that the question may sound silly to people with vast experience. To someone new to the experience, however, it may not be so simple.
I expect that the idea would be well explained in training classes before a person was permitted to carry in a school.
Note: I own quite a few firearms. I load ammo for all of them and shoot regularly. Living in NYC, however, I never carried. In PA after I retired, yes but that is an entirely different scenario.

Texas has permit less carry, open, or concealed, so in reality I don't care one way or the other for school teachers
And never has it mattered to a "soft target predator" to shoot an unarmed school.

Texas isn't trying to hide the fact that they're going to allow schools to arm themselves, and the public has watched Texas law enforcement to walk around armed for a couple hundred years.

As I said, there ARE SCHOOLS in West Texas that put up very blunt warning signs on the school grounds that the staff is fully  armed and will not tolerate any foolishness that endangers the kiddos.

This "assuming" that the teachers will be carrying concealed is a little  silly in my opinion.

Properly trained I wouldn't care if they walked around with
 an M4 on a 3 point sling.

I wouldn't care either how teachers carried, but there are ways you can carry concealed in the summer time. I do it all the time in just a tee shirt.

I personally prefer concealed, and have been doing so for almost 50 years.

Jock strap. Plenty of room for a gun.  ;D
