New Taurus model 85 range report
« on: February 09, 2004, 03:27:37 PM »
Pick up a stainless 85 about 3 weeks ago, at first wasn't real happy.  Shot 3" left and 1" low at 20 feet with 148 HBWC's. :(   I shot about 30 round thru it then decided to give it a cleaning. Had such a burr around the inside of the crown that it would rip a cleaning patch apart with one pass. Figured that might have some real affect on how it shot, so recrowned the thing and went back to do more plinking. To my suprise, POA right out to 25 yards. The trigger is like glass to boot.    My first snub nose and I couldn't be happier, can't believe how accurate these things are. Only have 100 rounds thru it to date, all handloaded HBWC's. Red Dot seems to shoot the best, I've tryed Unique and Bullseye as well with good results.  ~~ SV

The only complaint I have on the m85 is the trigger on my wifes is not as crisp as I think it should be, hopefully after a teardown and good cleaning it will be ok. :D

SV,
I picked up a Model 650 a few months back, and was nicely surprised at the accuracy. These 2" snubbies have all the accuracy of the 6" models, and are only limited by their sight plane length and grip size. They make a nice carry gun. I have been carrying mine with .38+P Hydrashocks.

I have owned, shot, and worked on a lot of TaurusĀ® Mdl 85's over the years and they just keep getting better & better.

You might want to try a set of Wolff Springs; they will really smooth things out. Really made a remarkable difference in my wife's gun. :-D

All of the Taurus guns I own and have owned have been extremely accurate right out of the box, in fact I cant recall ever having to even adjust the sight's on any of them....
