Lost skills ?
« on: February 15, 2024, 02:20:02 AM »
Pretty much every year post hunting season
there's a gazillion discussions around this
area about firearms and bows and muzzleloaders
and various pieces of equipment and accoutrements.
Had somebody asking about knives and what
I had and used. Apparently the notion of somebody
cutting their fingers off is still alive and kicking.
Sorry to tell people, but I don't require a textured
handle or a big crossguard or finger notches to
keep from cutting myself. "But whadda you do
when your hands get bloody?"
I finish my cutting job and wash everything
thoroughly, just like people have done for years.
People that cut meat for a living all day long
have used basically the same type of tools
for many many many years
I've cut up countless animals with these and
similar implements
When did people get so helpless?
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Probably

I'm thinking that's around the same time
that north american animals were toughened
up to resist penetration by projectiles launched
by older firearms

Probably should have also mentioned
the lost ability to use a common
whetstone.
