Omega Range Report!
« on: March 23, 2004, 05:55:31 AM »
Hah, fooled ya! I'm still waiting on my replacement scope from Millet before I shoot it again. Anyway to tide you over, I thought I'd post a pic of my recent 4 shot 50 yd GPR group. Load used was .530 round ball with .18 pillow ticking patch and 75 gr (volume) of ffg 777.

This is my first time shooting it with my new 57GPR peep and the globe front. I should mention that the wind was pretty strong and blowing from right to left. I didn't correct the windage because of it. It's probably going to be close to the center of the target with no wind. I'da posted it in the trad forum, but they're too busy being jerks.

Now that is terrific! Thinking about popping a deer with her this fall?

I'm sure gonna try! This pretty little lady's gonna be hunted with this fall. I figure I've got two rifles to blood this year, the Omega and the GPR. If that proposed change to the hunting code goes through, I'm going to get plenty of chances!

That is good shooting!
I can smell the backstraps on the grill...
The round ball is a deer slayer to beat the band.
Aim small don't miss.

Wolfhound,

I forgot to ask-- did you chrono that load? It should be fairly zippy!

I did when I found that load shot best, but lost my notes. Next time I go, I'll do so. Although I listed the charge by volume, all loads (powder) were weighed to within a 1/10th of a gr. variance.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.  I had planned on posting this on the trad forum, but them boys would probably be jerks about it seing as I weighed the charges, used plastic speed loaders, a laser rangefinder, and 777 powder. I will post on the Omega soon. I've just contacted Millett (supposed to learn more tommorow) to check on my replacement so I'm hoping it will not be too long.

The patches are prelubed T/C ones. It's bore butter methinks. I sure clean that nasty stuff out as good as I can!

Wolfhound,
Great shooting.  I wish i could shoot my scoped guns that good.

I'd been looking forward to seing how this peep would do. Best I could get with the generic fixed sights on it was 1 1/2" at 50yds and 2- 2 1/2" at 75yds (self imposed max range with this gun). Already I'm very impressed with these new sights. I did use homemade shooting sticks, but I do that with any gun I can't mount a bipod to.

Well I am using optics. I just can't see well without my glasses. Course the Traditionalists might get offended cause the lenses are plastic. The lady wouldn't sell me glass lenses cause I told her I shoot a bit.

Update:
Per Kurt at Millett, my scope will be shipped this week. I should be able to put the Omega through it's paces soon.

Patrick,
What went wrong with the Millet scope?  Which one did you have?  Also, How long is the turnaround going to be?  I'm one of those guys that likes to keep informed!!

Buckgold 3-9X44

For some reason the power adjustment ring froze up. I'm not sure what happened since it was working fine the last time I had used it. I put it up for most of a year and got it out before the Omega arrived so I could mount it and found the power ring stuck. It would move(extremely difficult), and felt gummy while turning it. I've been wondering if I got some oil or BP fouling in the threads.

Turnaround (so far) has been 2 weeks from the date I mailed it. Monday was the 2 week mark. I thought I'd check on it Tuesday and Kurt said he'd check and call me back. Found out Wedsday morning. He'd probably have called that night, but I told him I had to be at work in a couple hours. So far, I've been impressed with their response. I emailed the company and got a reply from Betty Millett, then I find out what's going on from Kurt (who actually called me back twice).
