I think someone in the Savage shipping/receiving department got confused.  Instead of opening the box that said "ram rods," they opened the box for Savages' new line of FISHING rods!

This is ABSOLUTELY the poorest excuse for a ramrod ever mated to a muzzleloader!  I have yet to seat ONE PROJECTILE with this pathetic pice of crap.  Savage, in case you didn't know, this is a FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR muzzleloader!

Did you catch anything with it?

Most ramrods are lousy-- Knight, Thompson, you name it. Too flimsy (Knight) or too short and painful (Remington, Encore, etc.) The only reasonably factory ramrod (IMO) is what comes std. on the Austin & Halleck, though the X-150 rod was good as well. The rest all have XS Sights Power-Rods on them.

The 2004 Savage rods are improved, and are fiberglass. Any chance yours came with one of the older plastic rods by mistake?

I also have a new Savage 10ML, and could not load a single sabot with the factory ramrod.  I'm not being overly dramatic here, either.  Two of us could not load a single round.  I believe the ramrod is plastic, because it 'shaves' plastic bits off on the muzzle.  Will Savage replace these for us?  Or do we need a class-action lawsuit?

On 2004 models, the ramrod is fiberglass. They replaced Chuck's-- a 2004 Accu-Trigger model.

That Savage rod is real junk. Go figure, with such a great rifle.
I removed the brass ends and put them on a hickory blank from Dixie and made 2 ramrods. Hickory, goood.

to use as a .45/.50 range rod.  I LIKE IT.  I put a .45 jag on one end, a .50 on the other.  Had to turn down the brass on the .45 end a little but that took about two minutes.  Works great.

I have a knight lk93 and a ramrod for the 15 inch T/C 209x50 contender.
both ramrods are made of aluminium and do not flex much when seating the bullets. I did find a brass bore guide for muzzle loaders and reamed it out a little so the ram rod will stay centered in the bore so it will not contact the barrel.

Just picked up my MLII today, the ramrod is the newer model and should work fine.  Be better if there was a little more length, but that's what my  range rod is for I guess. :wink:

I changed mine for an XS Power Rod........solid aluminum with that great pivoting top for seating with pressure. Factory unit was a limp noodle one despite the gun was a new accu trigger model just bought and should have had the updated RR in it. Get an XS and you won't look back.

Yes, as long as they are the same length. DO NOT go by the manufacturer's barrel length. MEASURE the ramrod for size. With some manufacturers (CVA for sure and maybe Winchester which are both owned by BPI) you may have to do a few modifications to keep the ramrod in place due to a loose fit. With Knight and T/C guns (from my own experience) this is a non issue as the Powerrods fit snug.

It fits perfect in my Savage but I had to cut to exact length and redrill and tap it for the seating end. Being solid aluminum it is easy to modify and work with.
