I have Burris 1.75X-5X-32mm Safari models on all three of my .375's(2 H&H's and a Weatherby), my .416 Rigby and I'm thinking about mounting one on my .450 Rigby.  Great scopes, well worth looking into.  Lawdog

There is always Leupold, and they have something for every type of firearm and hunting.

A friend put one together and the base wouldn't hold with a heavier scope ( a german 1-5?).  Just too much recoil. (it was tapped 8/40)

Although this may be a single incident, I read an article a while back regarding the scopes with the best track record, and the top of the list was the small Leupold 4x fixed.
Really light scope so it handles recoil a lot better and takes it easier on your mounts.  Not very exciting, but at least it should work.

After a lot of research I went with a Nikon Monarch Gold 1.5-6! This scope will sit on a 340 Weatherby mag.

SLAPPY 375
I don' think you would go wrong with either the burris or leupold, I've had nothing but good luck with both scopes. good luck Joe

If it means anything, Jack Lott mounted a 2.5X Weaver on his custom Mauser.

Or, if you can find one (they're scarce as hens teeth) you might consider a 2.5X Valor. I have one on my .45-70 Mauser, and, with my handloads, it takes quite a bit of punishment. I discussed this scope with a very knowledgeable fella, and he told me that the Valors had a reputation as a good, rugged scope that would stand up to hard kicking big bores.

I'm not real big on mounting variable powered scopes on the big bores. I can't help feeling that the extra mechanisms in the variables are more prone to failure than a simple fixed power scope. I guess I'm just old fashioned that way.

Con is right, the leupold 2.5x scope is probably the toughest scope for bigbores on the market...this is what I use on my .458 lott, .416, .585 Nyati & 45/70. For the lott on up Ilike to stick to fixed leupold 2.5x's scopes

All of the above answered your specific question about a scope. But, have you given any thought to a non-adjustable 'ghost ring' type sight set to 55 yards or thereabouts. Afterall, that Lott is for hunting big nastys up close and it may be wise to trade precise 'scope assisted sighting for a absolutely clear uncomplicated trustworthy iron sight... particularly for that 2nd, or 3rd shot. 8)

Hi Slappy:

If you want no surprises on your 458 Lott go with a Leupold either straight 2.5 power or 1.5 X 5 Vari X III...

I use ALL Leupolds on my hard kickers.... 1.5 X 5 on my Custom 458 Lott and custom 416 Rem....3X10... semi custom Winnie Mod70 SS 375 H&H.... 3X12 on 300 SS RUM all Vari X III's...

Put on a set of QD's either Talley or Warne and don't look back.
