In the Old Testament, the Israelites were supposed to stone adulterers, murderers, rapists, and homosexuals. I think God wanted to get rid of the genetics associated with sin. Some people are just born to sin, so God wanted them out of His people. This made them more family oriented, hard work was rewarded, and over time their IQ's are the highest in the world, thus making them smarter.
Now of course in the New Testament, God made a way out because of His Love, through Jesus Christ, IF someone REPENTS of their sins, and accept Christ as savior. The Old Testament showed God's Holiness and Wrath against sin, the New shows His Love and Mercy.
Anyway, they did some studies back in the 70's of Christians that attended church at least twice a week vs those who didn't. This study didn't differentiate as to whether the chruch attendees were actually saved or not. However, those who attended church lived 7 years longer than the general population, had fewer diseases, and lived happier lives. So being a Christian does have benefits. Less alcoholism, drug addition, etc. Until recently less adultery, more two parent households, kids who got into far less trouble. No church is perfect, and no human is perfect, so there can be some problems.
Jews today do not stone, but Hassidic Jews might if they ever gained power in Israel. Most Jews in Israel are westernized Jews from Europe, and some from America. Israel has the highest standard of living in the Middle East. Higher than their neighbors like Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon. Don't know about the super rich oil bearing Arab countries like Qutar. Without oil the Middle Easterners would still be riding camels and nomadic and living in the Middle Ages.
