Al Asad air base attacked again last night..
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/us-gunship-strikes-back-iran-linked-militants-injured/story?id=105070277 Al Asad has been a major target, going back to the "insurgent" days. During thaose hot months of the insurgency, my grandson was stationed
in the "Iron triangle"fighting insurgents there..between Ramadi/Fallujah areas..
His second deployment was to Al Asad, at that time a Marine base. Even thouigh he was Spec ops, his unit was termed "provisional MPs"..because
their job was to keep Al Asad from attack.
The base was under almost continuous attack by mortars etc. When he wasn't in his gunsmithing shop, he was out with other Marines, searching
out and eliminating terrorists who were attacking. Al Asad is a large base, with a 17 mile perimeter...and the haters were usually firing from the
hills that overshadow the base.
With last night's attack, it was good to see that a gunship was on duty, ready to offer immediate response base Back then it when attacked, for
the Marines, it was just a case of "boots and saddles"..and go get 'em !
Looks different now, than it did during the war. Just a base alone now, I suspect.
