  Pope welcomes idols into some churches in Rome.  Some folks objected, threw the graven images into the Tiber River.
  Pope fishes Idols out...apologises for those who refuse to worship idols.  Does he read the Bible ?

The thread title threw me a little until I read the article. The catholic church has always had statues of idols, guess these in article are the wrong kind.

Wrong. You have exhibited a common, perhaps willful, misunderstanding of the function of statuary in RC churches. You, with all that you read, should know better. The RC church does not espouse idolatry. It never has. No one worships a statue. Idolatry is the belief that the graven image itself holds some kind of power. No RC does that. There is, however, the belief, which you are free to disagree with, that holy persons who have gone before can be asked to support a prayer or plea….to pray for God’s grace in the asking. One sees this in the closing phrases of the popular RC prayer “Ave Maria”……”pray for us sinners”
