LEE 7/8 OZ. SLUGS & TRACKER II=====>UPDATE
« on: March 26, 2004, 01:18:20 AM »
Well.....I had another opportunity to finish early and shoot yesterday afternoon.....and the task was now to verify the 50yd group with these slugs and see what the drop at 100yds is......with that info & the assumed velocity of 1500fps (I did not take time to Chrony this load, that's for Saturdays & no rain) I could run the data through my ballistics program to find the BC, 100yd velocity & energy.

 :eek: Well......the load gave a nice 2" group at 100 yds, showing a 10" :shock:  drop.....this calculated out to a yield of 361 ft-lbs :eek:  :eek:  :eek:

Nice group, but for target use only, I'm not sure I'd want to shoot at a racoon beyond 50 yds with that slug. Even using a different powder to increase velocity to a theoretical 1638fps (and we all know that reality usually comes in slower) the energy is STILL  under 400 ft-lbs.

So the search continues.......(Brenneke is next!)

Squirrel.......the OTHER dark meat.....!

Let us know how the Brenneke's turn out for you...They group great out of my Remington 870 with a fully rifled barrel...
