independent Review of Trump assassination attempt
« on: July 22, 2024, 01:34:14 PM »
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has appointed a bipartisan, independent panel to review this month's assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, officials said Sunday.

The panel members will have "extensive law enforcement and security experience to conduct a 45-day independent review of the planning for and actions taken by the U.S. Secret Service and state and local authorities before, during, and after the rally, and the U.S. Secret Service governing policies and procedures," the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.

The first people named to the panel are former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano; Frances Townsend, former Homeland Security adviser to President George W. Bush; Mark Filip, a former federal judge and deputy attorney general to President George W. Bush; and David Mitchell, former Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Homeland Security for the state of Delaware.

Additional experts could be asked to join the group in the coming days, the statement said.

The panel will have 45 days to review the policies and procedures of the Secret Service before, during and after the rally on July 13 where a gunman fired at Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"We formed this bipartisan group to quickly identify improvements the U.S. Secret Service can implement to enhance their work. We must all work together to ensure events like July 13 do not happen again," members of the independent review panel said in a joint statement.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said she welcomes the review.

"I look forward to the panel examining what happened and providing recommendations to help ensure it will never happen again," Cheatle said in a statement Sunday. "The U.S. Secret Service is continuing to take steps to review our actions internally and remain committed to working quickly and transparently with other investigations, including those by Congress, FBI and the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General."

Cheatle is set to testify Monday before the House Oversight Committee.

This BS means absolutely nada, zip, nuttin. No heads will roll, the Biden DEI appointee that runs the Secrete Service will still be there to provide protection for Trump ::) Typical DC time wasted garbage to appease the sheeple.

Watched the hearing today, was a waste a time because Cheatle didn't answer any tough questions. All she kept saying was she has to wait for the FBI investigation. Nancy Mace from SC told her she was full of crap today, and she want lying. Mace grilled her pretty hard, and was feisty. I liked her. Lisa McClain also grilled her pretty hard, along with Marjorie Taylor Green. who asked her if there was a conspiracy to assassinate Trump.
Cheatle wouldn't even say how many empty casings were found on the roof.  I was waiting for someone to ask Cheatle one question, which was why did the sniper wait to shoot Crooks until Crooks fired at Trump. Lauren Boebert from CO. was the only one to ask that question, and of course it wasn't answered.  Most all of them called for her to resign or be fired. Some of the democrats tried to blame it all on the availability of AR's like Raskin.

Congress needs to appoint an independent investigation team, because having the FBI investigate the assassination attempt, would be no different than the secret service doing it.

This administration couldn't put together an independent review board if it really wanted to. After seeing what's happened in this country and the Democrats in particular in the last 10 years, crock of BS.

If anyone actually wanted an honest review of the failure, the FBI should have marched into BATFE's headquarters, without warning, and confiscated every damn computer file, piece of paper, and sticky-note they could find, BEFORE a whole raft of someone's could start shredding everything in sight.  Now, it's far too late to get a real, truthful review of a damned thing.

The aim of an "independent panel", should be to arrive at a fair and just conclusion.  Frankly, I can't feature the Demonrats  being fair and just..
