Oh, please......that works with almost EVERY dog.  The issue is if they're on the attack.....there'll be no "diffusing" an attacking dog.
They do respond well to scratching that area, though. They can't reach that area right in front of the tail, and love it when somebody starts scratching the whole lower back.
Just another internet expert.....

If it’s not your dog, the only reason you’d need to calm it down is if it was acting aggressively and I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t allow you to be putting your hands on him. Kinda like rubbing a gators belly…

All day, every day.  We bought a puppy, sold to us as a Rottweiler/German shepherd.  It grew up into a Rottweiler colored Wired Haired Terrier with more energy than the Energizer Bunny.

I'll 2nd that. While hanging Christmas lights in 1989, my spouse was holding our first son and handing me lights. Suddenly we were surrounded, or she was, by three huge rotties. They were well behaved and followed closely by a neighbor as they had bolted from his house through an open fence. No harm no foul.. We got to meet a neighbor. I never got off the ladder. I got crap for that.

  Oops! ..sorry guys...
I took it as a form of a joke...rather like stopping a Rhino charge by shoving your hand down his throat far enough to grab his tail, pull him inside
    out...so he's running the other way !

...Guess it didn't look that way to most.. :D ;D

safer than 10s of thousands of crack head parents with babies  in the house ;)b compares to what drugs do to our kids pit bulls arent worth even a mention. ill worry about the real problems. i know familys that have suffered and lost family members to drugs, alchohol and even cigarettes and car and motorcycle crashes. all much more likely to get you killed than a dog. never once met anyone that was attacked by a dog of any bread and was even seriously hurt. not that it doesnt happen. most of this kind of crap comes from people who dont like dogs. ive had at least one my whole life except the 8 years i served and a dog will be at my funeral and someone will drive my harley there. .

Lloyd

I am quite fond of dogs.  Some better than people.  I currently have two and if someone tried to hurt them, there'd be hell to pay.  Having said that, I have no use for pit bulls.  Sure, most won't do any harm, but I just don't trust them.  You can't breed something for hundreds of years and then be surprised when they do that same thing.  Watch a bird dog pup point a bird with no training.  It's in their genes.  Same goes with a fighting dog breed.  It's unlikely to happen, but I sure wouldn't risk my child or anyone I care about with it.

Don't need to kill them.  Just need idiots to quit breeding them.  They'd go away and nobody gets hurt.

Pitts are built to do a lot of damage. They are the type of dog that will bite and continue the attack. It's in their DNA.
There are many other breeds built the same way. herding/guard  dogs being one of them. Rotts, Kangals, Belgian Malinois ,Dogo Argentino are some. They are not generally a good breed for most people. People are the problem with the Pitt type dogs, and it's much harder (it would appear) to train the owners. It's sad, because if we could eliminate the Pitt from the picture, it would be replaced by another breed by idiot people in short order. Where I live in the Peoples Republic of Oregon, idiots bring their potential trouble makers into public places like the grocery store, and If you say anything to them, the employees take their side. (They are service dogs) Bull Shite!

My brother's old coon hunting friend Jerry Clower, claimed those little "ankle biter" dogs were the worst.  He related that as a boy, he had to endure a local
residency, where they had several large, mean dogs.
When Jerry had to pass by that house, the big old dogs were usually sleeping on the porch.

Problem is, too often he would nearly sneak safely past the house... then the little ankle biter would come running, and yapping like crazy...
whereupon the big dogs would wake up and "chew your leg off".

Here's a little story for which Jerry gave my brother credit for being producer.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AX9QoFhEhI&t=12s

Our dog is a rescue and is Pit, Rottweiler and Doberman(a litter mate was genetically tested). She and her litter mates were abused, mistreated and starved for months before they were all caught and removed from under an abandoned trailer house. Except for the mother who was very aggressive they have all been exceptional dogs with no signs of aggression and extreme loyalty and devotion to their owners. I think ours is the most intelligent dog we have had and understands words more than any other breed we have had. She is/has been in no way aggressive towards us and accepts the few corrections we do with a seeking to please behavior and understanding that she did something wrong. She learned pretty much everything we taught her within only a couple of times and minds really well. She has shown no aggression towards us at all and absolutely loves children including our grandchildren. She is protective of our house and my old 66 F100 pickup that we drive daily into town when I'm working or getting groceries, she rides shotgun with me anywhere I go without the wife coming along. I think the difference is that she is fully embedded in our family and rarely left behind except Sundays when we go to church. She was a challenge for me when we first got her, she didn't/doesn't trust men a darn bit and likes/trusts women for the most part. It took a couple of months of gaining her trust and socializing with her but after that it was a win all the way. Here's a good study/article on dogs and the breeds most likely to be aggressive and bite or attack people and looking at the resources they used I think it's fairly credible. What sticks out in this that the smaller breeds tend to be more aggressive and bite than larger breeds. No doubt the larger breeds get more notoriety because of their size and the amount of potential damage they can do. It's a longer read but worth looking at.

I read a book about men hunting huge wild boar with the Dogo Aregentino, wish I could remember the name, anyways these men treated their doggo’s With great honor and when the men killed the boar they did it with a long knife between the shoulder blades into the heart, great read...
