Well, I've gone and done it again  (those on-line auctions are killing my bank book  )....anyway, my new (slightly used) H&R 45/70 Trapdoor Springfield will shortly join my 38-55 "Target"and "45/70 Buff Classic". Now folks, I shoot ONLY Black Powder, and cast all my own lead....and I have good working load for the 45/70 and a fantastic load for the 38-55...... BUT....I read from various on line sources that the original Trapdoor Carbine was loaded with 55 grains of Black Powder, and the 70 grain load reserved for the Infantry model.
Do any of you gentelmen shoot the 45/70 Trapdoor with a 55 grain laod and if so how does it perform?
Also if anyone wants some 38-55 ammo that was professionally produced I have several boxes that I will NEVER use. Let me know as I will part with it for a great savings. Thanks again....
