I bought 2 barrels that are inline on close out for a knight switchbarrel gun. one is a 54 cal green mountain fast twist barrel and the other is a 12 guage shotgun barrel The receiver for this is no longer made. I had 2 kentucky style stocks so I decided to tang up the inline end by making my own tangs and plugging the inline hole for the nipple and and re- drill and tap for a nipple under the barrel for a underhammer gun. These will be full stock guns . I have one set of plans found in the Backwoodsman Magazine fore a underhammer pistol which could be used but not that impressed with them as they are not to scale and the spring system is a bit different. I plan on re-inletting the stocks to the round barrels and making a self contained underhammer/trigger system that I will inlet into the stock where the trigger would normally go on a traditional stock. Has anyone seen any underhammer plans on the web or in books that I can get more ideas on the locks from? I have made one traditional gun from parts not a kit so the stockwork is in my realm as is the metal work I just need some plans as the underhammer was not as popular as the other guns as they came late in the ball game right before cartridges came in. Any plans or ideas where to look would be appreciated. I just contacted the local library to interlibrary loan the books Black Powder Hobby Gunsmithing by Sam Fadala and Dale Story hopeing some info on the underhammer would be in there plus the book A Pictorial on Underhammer Guns hopeing some lock drawings would be in there also. It could take a week or so for those to show up and I figured I would ask around online as most of the guys who are into muzzle loading are a self sufficient bunch it seems like that many like to make their own so I thought I would ask. Any Ideas would be appreciated. Jim
