ruger bearcat ?
« on: January 31, 2004, 06:32:33 AM »
Anybody shootin' one of these?  Was it hard to get it to shoot POA with those fixed sights?  I've been wanting a Single Six, but one of these could probably satisfy me until the Single Six Hunters become available.  The Bearcat looks like it would tuck into a pocket pretty easy.  Anyway, I'd like to hear some of your experiences with this gun.  Thanks!

Redawg, you will be very happy with a bearcat.  I have one and it has become my favorite 22 pistol.  I bought it used several years ago. (Wish I had bought one back when they were $37.50 new!)  It is light enough that you hardly know it is there, and yes, I quite often just drop it into my pants pocket.  Never had a problem with fixed sights on a .22.  Most seem to shoot to point of aim.  Mine shoots about an inch left at 10 yards and that would be easy to fix if I cared to.  I haven't experimented with different ammo yet as it shoots well with the federals I have on hand, but I bet I could find another brand or bullet wt that would probably shoot dead on.  It is a great single action .22 trail gun!  44 Man

i been lusting after one, but can't afford it right now. the fixed sights put me off, but a friend brought his to the range to let me try.the darn thing hit right where it was supposed to, and it might be luck, but i shot the best group i ever have with an unfamiliar pistol the first time.of course, he wouldn't part with it.i belive he paid 29 bucks for it when he was in the navy!

Thanks for the responses!  Sounds like it might be just what I'm looking for.  Too bad the days of buying one that cheap were a little before my time.  Guess I'll just keep looking at the gun shows and online gun auctions.  Thanks again! :D

New ones and used ones both seem to go for about $350 around these parts.  I found mine (an old model) in the used gun section for $200.  I didn't even haggle!  All good things come to those who wait.

I have a very old one Ser. Fxxx It shoots to point of aim with most standard velocity loads at 50 feet.  It sure is a joy to carry.  My Single Six is also an old model, have to drive rear sight for windage, nice revolver, but like carrying the Bearcat lot better.

Thanks for the pricing info.  $200 sounds like a heckuva deal.  Sorry for the redundant post, I noticed the previous Bearcat post after I'd already started this one. Thanks for responding again!

I think you'll be happy with a Bearcat. I've had one for about five years. Mine shoots to point of aim with just about everything from standard velocity loads to Stingers and Velocitors. Just lucky I guess. It is probably my most carried handgun. I always have it with me when hunting or just plinking, and it's small enough for my daughter to shoot too. I had an old Uncle Mikes nylon holster for a S&W K frame. I put the Bearcat in it, and drew around the gun with a pencil. Took it to an upholstery shop and they stiched on the line. It fits perfectly, and the gun is protected from dents and dings.
