Ultra .223 is here!!!
« on: March 29, 2004, 05:26:25 PM »
Will I finally got my gun in. In a previous post I wasn't sure if I should stay with the Ultra .243 or the .223. I decided on the Ultra Varmint .223. If the weather allows, I'm going to take it to the range wednesday. I'll post with the results.

If you haven't bought ammo already, make sure to at least try the Win Value pak.  Some of my 223's love them.

I shot the Win 45 gr value pack ammo in a 1/8 twist  AR Sunday. I didn't think that barrel would handle anything that light. 3/4  " at 100 yards for 5 shots ! I like that ammo, looking forward to trying it on groundhogs. I am impressed by the 1/8 twist, handles bullets from ( at least ) 45 gr. to 69 gr. weight.
Shoot straight , shoot often.

Range results

Went to the range today and tested the new Ultra, with (for me) good results. I shot Win CXP1 55 gr bullets at 100yds. Fired 4 rounds at 50 yds to get on the paper followed by 5 3 shot groups. My average group was 2" with the last 2 groups having two of the shots in half inch group. I was shooting off from a concrete bench, using a wood riser with towels on it for the front rest and my shoulder for the back. I know that there are a lot better groups posted, but until january I haven't shot anything for about 8 years.   Since january I've shot my 22 LR about 35 times. I feel that once I get back into the hang of it my groups will improve greatly.

P.S to Handirifle, I'm going to give the Win Value pack a try. Do you know if they are reloadable? I have a friend that reloads and he is going to work some loads up for me.

I want to thank everyone on this board for the info. What a great place!

Tom,  you can reload the Winchester Value Pak .223 just fine.

Glad to hear that you are having so much fun with your new toy.  I'm off to the range again this weekend with mine!

Like student said, you sure can reload those.  I use their brass a lot.  Have had some of my best reload results so far with them.

Believe it or not my new Ultra like the "35"gr Hornady V-max. It looks like a little bitty pistol bullet, it's so blunt, but give me 3/4" or less groups.  It's a new barrel and I'm hoping it will eventually like the value pak.

My sons have Handi's and one of the LOVES the valus pak ammo.  So far mine groups them about 3 - 4" at 100yds.  My sons handis did the same when new but are getting better all the time.
