Firing Pin Selector on Hammer Problem
« on: March 31, 2004, 10:42:52 AM »
I am experiencing a new problem on a contender pistol.  I sent the frame off to TC for repair for a reoccurring loose firing pin plate cover.  I believe TC replaced several parts.  My new problem is that when firing the pistol with a 44 mag barrel, the firing pin selector moves from centerfire to the no fire position following every shot.  With a milder recoiling barrel (22 LR) this does not happen.  Any one have any ideas?  I know if I send it to TC they would fix it for free, but I hate to do without it for the 3 to 4 weeks it would take, plus shipping it is a hassle.  Thanks.

I had a similar prob at first with one of my frames and a 10" 44mag barrel. Sprayed some carburator cleaner and cleaned everything, no more problem. I think there were some metal shavings left in the selector (at least they came from somewhere, I caught all the 'washouts' in a cloth). Obviously make sure you relubricate everything when you're done. Worth a shot before you ship it back to T/C.
