Are they aluminum? The base? The rings? Are they really that tough?

I just sent a barrel to SSK to have a T'SOB installed. $100.00 for six screw base and three rings installed and return shipping, and was assured that it would not fail.

Sounds a little pricey for two drilled holes and tapped, with three rings and a base, plus shipping out and back.

Am I missing something here or am I just a cheap sob?

Is it really worth it?

CHEAP!!
Actually I have the TSOB on one of my barrels, it came with it! I also have a 358 jdj barrel and 45-70 barrels that have other rings and base set ups that have NOT given me any problems.Jdj figured the steel bases and rings would be to heavy for the hand cannon rounds he makes. He might be right!BUT I have had no trouble with mine YET.  jh

CHEAPO SOB :-D  :D  :)  There is "another" Contender smith (MB) who's mount is also a 6 screw system he uses a stock Weaver 92A base modified to six holes then modifies the screws so they will tighten down before bottoming out. You use standard Weaver rings. His “system” costs about 1/4 the amount of the T’SOB system. I have this system on my Reeder T/C Contender .41GNR#2 with a 2X Leupold and on my SSK Contender .411JDJ with a Bushnell Trophy 1X28 Red Dot sight with the 4 Reticles. Everything is still holding while shooting some very heavy hunting loads.
Love those .41s'

Well the cat is out of the bag, I am a CHEAP OL' SOB!  But that is how I have amassed all the beautiful hand cannons and long smoke poles, hehe!!!   :)

Does anyone have a picture of this high dollar, oh sorry can't stop being cheap, T'SOB RIG?  I think I saw one at my local toy store.  It looked like the rings and base were one.  Is that it?

might as well go right to SSK's site if you really want to see one.

don't have any TSOB setups at this time myself, but I guess if I ever get an SSK barrel, I'd probably have one installed.

The barrel I sent to J.D. is a 358 JDJ. Second trip to the range it disassembled a Burris 2.5x7. I shipped it back for repair. Third trip, it stripped the mounting holes in the barrel. I agree  the steel bases and rings are to heavy for the handcannons. I had a Warne steel base and 3 Warne steel rings mounted on it when it stripped the holes. I talked with a local smith about doing the work, and he wouldn't touch it, so I chose to have SSK do the work. Is a $100.00 a little pricey? Maybe. But if you can't keep a scope on the barrel, then what is the point. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Geno for the idea of going to SSK.    :D

After looking at the base, I can see no difference with the exception of having two more screws in the base.  If this is the case why doesn't TC pre drill the additional holes before the barrels leave the factory?  This would seem like a good idea, ya think?

My weaver rails are alum already with the 6 screw mounting and some alum rings it could be as strong as the "other" rig. I think so but I don't know for sure. does anybody else know?

Since we are on the subject, I just got my new Burris 2x scope and in the fine print it states to mount the scope on a steel base and rings.  Is this really necessary?  Are they just hawking their rings and mounts?
