What do ya'll think? Sig 226 looked in good shape.

Was at a gun show today and I seen a Sig 226 in .40 cal. I was very interested in the gun so of course I asked questions.

Q. How "used" is this gun?
    A. "Only half a clip has went through it!"
Q. Why do you want to sell this gun if it hasnt even been broken into yet?
    A. "A buddy of mine needed the money, so I bought it."
 
Then he procedded to tell me that I would end up paying over $700 dollors for the gun at a dealer brand new.

The price on the used gun was $625 with a gun lock, case and 2 10 round clips.

Q. How low will you go on the gun?
    A. "I can only go down to $610"

$15 bucks off isnt good enough for me, so I left. Half way to the parking lot I turned around and figured I would just through him a price I was willing to pay and see if he bought. So I go back to the desk.

Q. Would you take $580 cash and carry?
    A. "No, I'm really sorry, I can't. I will go $600 and thats it"

Q. Well, all I have on me is $590, how does that sound?
    A. "I can't sorry"

So I went to the bar for a drink and went home. I just cant find a gun that I like, or if I do, no one wants to budge on the price. I need some tips for getting some good deals, or at least get a push. I could'nt even talk this guy out of $10, was I looking at a hot deal, or did I do ok?

You did okay in my opinion 600 is not a good deal at all. Although the guy has to make a living. Gunshow dealers are sometime like used car dealers. They will tell you just about anything to make a sale. There not going to tell you it has had 1000 rounds ran through it. they are trying to sell it. Some brands of guns also tend to be like a car as soon as you buy they value depreciates. If you where willing to pay 600 what's another 150 to buy a new one. Our local gun shop had a newsig 220 all stainless with tactical rail for 758. When buying don't let the wan't exceed rationalism. The 226 model is a good choice. I own 2 sig 226's one 9mm and .357sig and love them both. If you are going to buy used try to buy from someone you know or who had a good reputation (sometimes easier said than done).
